How do I start and run a blog under my own domain name? (other than URL forwarding)?

Here is what I need to do: I have a registered domain name. It can be hosted on windows or linux. I need to start a blog under this domain name without using URL forwarding which forwards this domain to blogger.com or some other such site. I also need the blogging application to give me the some scope to choose from different templates and view visitor statistics etc. Any help on how to do this would be much appreciated! oops before i forget, hopefully this service should be free!!!

1. Once you have bought your hosting package from a hosting provider such as http://www.dreamhost.com or http://www.anhosting.com you need to install a piece of blogging software such as Drupal (http://www.drupal.org), Movable Type (http://www.moveabletype.org) or WordPress (http://www.wordpress.org) At that point you just need to setup your favored theme and add some content and your blog is away :)
