3. While you can sometimes get away with using a cover letter template, depending on the jobs you are applying for, this might actually not be a good idea. If you do not cater your cover letter to the job being offered, its going to be hard to get it read by somebody receptive to hiring you. Each job has a unique set of skills, and each employer is looking for a specific set of criteria in hiring a specific person. Usually, you can get a good sense of what those things are by reading the advertisement for the job. By creating a cover letter to meet what the employer is looking for, you are more likely to get both your cover letter and resume read.
