How do I go about writing a letter to get sponsors for a charity event?

I plan on having a dart shoot what do I do about finding business' to sponsor the shoot and how much should I ask for it going to be for the Canadian Cancer Society. Is there a letter template somewhere

1. use a formal outline with your name, address ect in the top right and the sponsers adress in the left space below that. Start with To Whom it may Concern: then invite them to sponsor your event (I am oragnizing a dart shoot and would appreciate it if you would support my event) outline the general event in details. Then thank them for their time/ consideration. Sign the letter and mail it.
