Can't modify a Microsoft Office Template that I downloaded.?

I just downloaded one of the templates that Microsoft offers on their website. It is a vehicle inspection form. Some fields I can click in... others, I cannot. I need to modify this form but cannot figure out how to select certain fields. Help please?

1. Open the doc (I asume it's an excel file) click the home button and then select Format (far right) Select protection from the drop down menu and click unprotect save the doc again and all the fields will be available
