How do I edit a flash web site template?

I downloaded a flash template and I am having trouble editing. when I open the file I edit and export as swf and it goes insane... what am I doing wrong? It is a template of a website, the site I downloaded from told me to use flash cs3 to newer, I'm using cs4.

1. A template of an Actionscript program or a template of a website? Open it in what? A website template is some graphic files (use GIMP) and some html files (use Notepad if you don't have anything else). You use Flash to compile Actionscript, which you edit in Notepad.
