  1. Download and install OpenOffice.org and create a CV with that. You do not need CV templates.
  2. You can use Microsoft Word for free (the light version, at least) at Microsoft's SkyDrive site: http://www.skydrive.com/ You don't have to download or install anything, and it's free and doesn't expire. Plus you get 25 gig of free storage space and the ability to use it on any computer anywhere in the world where there's an internet connection. If you want the full version of Office, you can use it for free for 60 days in trial version: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ As you already experienced, compatibility with other products is pretty poor at times. You'll see a lot of messages pushing OpenOffice, but there are other free alternatives that may be as good, or even better:. Here's a list of some others (IBM's Lotus Symphony is worth a close look): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_office_suites#Comparison_of_general_and_technical_information
  3. Go to www.microsoftofficeonline.com and you will be able to download a trial of Office 2010. If you need to save your CV in the 2007 version you can use the compatibility tab.
