How long does it take minimum to get a work done in a Government office of India?

1.Assume the job of getting a letter / certificate for which the officer has template available and authority to issue 2.Only share based on what you experienced. No general opinion please 3. It can be an office in India or overseas (say embassy / consulate)

  1. The embasssies and consulates are quite efficient and will give you the requested letter/certificate in 2 to 5 days if you have given all the requested dicumentation. It is another matter altogether in India as it may take from 7 to 14 days. This is due to the volume of applications received as well as beaurocratic ineptness.
  2. Embassy/Consulate is fine you get the paper on said time they are good at that. But in India truly speaking depends on the clerk working on it, it is not a general but I have noticed it, anlso on his mood and ofcourse based on your contacts and buying power (even though it is legitimate you need to buy it)
  3. they have pre - scheduled time for every work , i have some papers to be attested by the embassy in kuwait ,.And received back in just 3 hours which was already informed to me. but in India , u have to hang with those guys ,. i got my passport after 1year and 2 months :-( - in fact after a long struggle , complaint to the police commissioner for delay in inquiry , again complaint to police commissioner since they dint sent the file back to the passport office , another complaint to the regional passport commissioner ( since my was 1 year old at the time they received it they put it on hold for further investigation ) , atlas after a big struggle i was issued ;-(
