What is an appropriate donation amount for a website template I downloaded?

I am using a web designer's XHTML/CSS template for my personal website. His templates are free, but I would like to make a donation to support his work. Can anyone suggest what would be an appropriate amount? FWIW, - these are not hack HTML jobs, they are professionally done, standards-based XHTML/CSS, no tables for layouts - I don't make money on my site - I plan to keep a link on my site pointing to the designer's site, even after donating - I've only used one of his templates, but may use others in the future
