Can I trust templates for word from the Microsoft community?
There's a disclaimer on the Microsoft website that says they don't promise it'll be free from viruses and defects. Is it safe to download templates? There's a few that I want, but don't want to take the risk of damage to my computer. How do I tell they're safe/defect free?

Some templates may contain macro's (Macro's are essentially a string of instructions that have been pre-recorded, which can be triggered to execute automatically or on command) Some macro's are malicious, though most are not. Upon opening a document with Macro's MS Office will usually ask you if you want to run them or not to use them. If you have kept Windows up to date with the latest Office updates and service packs, you should be well protected against them, if not, just click the "No" button and the macro's in the document will not run. If you are paranoid, scan them with your antivirus or MalwareBytes to see if they contain infected files
