Can you please help me with this simple assignment?

I have to hand in this 0-credit hour resume/cover letter assignment. We have the templates - we just have to fill them in with our details. It's just an assignment, but my instructor said that they would spruce the resume/cover letter up for us later, so that they can be used for real. I have no idea what to type under 'SKILLS'. It says: ·Communication skills: a."[Type in and list your professional skills]" b. ·Computer skills: a."[type in & list your computer skills]" What do they mean by 'communication skills'? I don't think they mean languages, because there is another heading for languages And what exactly do I type under computer skills? a. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint b. HTML, Internet Browsers Sounds stupid, I know, but that's all I know, honestly. I kinda knew ACCESS, but I hated it, so I'm sure I forgot everything. Is that okay? Or should I put 'Internet Browsers' as c., and HTML as b.? . And 'interests'... What do I type in there? My silly hobbies are maths, astronomy, reading books, going out, solving mysteries, playing chess, ancient history... I don't stargaze, though. Gah, I suck. And it says 'Do not type something like surfing the net or going out - everybody does that. That does not make you any different.'. And is the objective... 'Seeking a part-time job that utilises mathematical, interpersonal and computer skills' okay? Can you suggest a better one? It says that the objectives must be specific, but since this is an assignment, and I have no idea what job I'm applying for, I really don't know what to write. As a mathematics student, I can say that Maths can be applied to any field of life, really, so I can do any job, but I don't know what to write as my objective. I don't really have an objective... :'( My university helps students and graduates get part-jobs in the university or part/full-time jobs in the real world. Engineering and business students get the crowing glory, engineering students especially. They have this internship that's part of their course, and the career advising guys say that although the Maths programme here is accredited, there are no job opportunities for Maths students so far, and neither is an internship a part of the Maths programme. Gah, I suck, and I guess I won't get a job, anyway. That's the only damn disadvantage of being a Maths student - you have to wait for a long time until you can get a cool job. I don't want to make this too long, or else no one will help me... So I'll ask for help with the cover letter in my next post.

  1. Communication skills means how you interact with people through communication. Such as, telephone, email, talking in person, making speeches, etc. Computer skills means the things you can do by using a computer or you knowledge of computers. Such as, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access), internet, email, typing (words per minute), clip art, graphic design, creating accounts or websites, etc. Interests means things that you are interested in. Such as, movies, traveling, photography, spending time with family/friends, etc. If there is no hobby section, then you add those here too. The things you have listed sound good. Objective means the goal at which you want to obtain within the job you are seeking. The one you have is okay, but you misspelled a word (utlises is spelled utilizes). If you want to be more creative, here is my suggestion of an objective: "I am seeking a part-time position that will allow me to utilize my mathematical skills, interpersonal skills, and computer skills." If you are seeking a job soley focusing on math, then just listing math skills may be okay, but all three are fine too. Also, if you know the field, you can say "....position in engineering that will....." I hope that makes sense. And don't feel bad. I have a degree in elementary education and still looking for a full-time teaching position. I graduated in May 2009! Good luck!!!
