Saving powerpoint design in what format?

I downloaded some powerpoint design templates but thy wudn't open. I think it's cuz thyr in the wrong format. What format should it be in (e.g .jpg, .ppt etc.)

1. It's .ppt BUT, you may have downloaded templates that aren't compatible with your version of Powerpoint.
2. It should be .ppt. .pps file is a slideshow that starts the presentation directly without opening powerpoint. If you want to edit the slide, change it back to in .ppt format and open it.
