Can't locate my Microsoft Word prgrm.?

Have had this computer for about 8 years, and just recently I could not find in my start up the icon for microsoft word. I don't use WordPerfect. I had the Word a few weeks ago, and now it is no where to be found. Very frustrated and can't figure out how you lose a program. Its not in my Add/Delete section either. It has all the templates for different kinds of letters, etc.
