Two weeks notice letter, qutting job to go to uni?
Hi there, So I have worked at a large department store chain for the past year (since last August. I then worked there throughout gr. 12). However, I am leaving the city in September for university so I obviously can't work there anymore. For the two weeks notice letter, do I just leave in my supervisor's desk, or actually hand it to her in person? Also, is this a good template to reference from: http://jobsearchtech.about.com/od/resumesandletters/a/resignletter.htm Sorry, this is my first job and I really know nothing about quitting haha. Also, when I return next April, I potentially want to come back, but not for sure. I'll mention this in the letter.. Next year, if I still want to come back, do I just come in and speak to my manager or actually resubmit my resume and everything again? Thanks:) Thanks!:) The thing is, I still haven't told any of my bosses that I'm leaving.. And I'm planning on handing it in tomorrow because I'm running out of time. Would it be bad if the time I give them the letter is the first time I mention that I''m leaving?

- I'd recommend a nice short letter that verifies a conversation that you have with your boss first. Just let your boss know that you are heading off to university on XYZ date, and you've really enjoyed the last year working here, and was hoping you could continue to do seasonal work. Then give a short letter stating "as per my conversation with you my last day will be XYZ. I've really enjoyed my time with this company, and would hope to have summer employment the following year." You don't need to worry about too much formality at your age, and for the type of position that you are in.
- Regarding the template, yes it's good enough. You have to let your supervisor know you're resigning verbally as well as the resignation letter. The letter is just a formality, it is important to let your supervisor know so that they can make arrangement for your replacement. Just let them know that you are unsure what the procedure is when resigning. Don't take it too seriously, I know its your first job and since you are running out of time, the sooner you let them know the better. Tell your supervisor your intention on returning in April. At least you have a head up against competition for you job. It's just good business practice to let your supervisor know ahead of time potential disruption in scheduling. Ask your supervisor if you need to re-submit your resume and/or an application for your return to work in April. I'm sure they will tell you what you need to do. Have fun at the University!
