What the templates in microsoft office? what are used for?

I am trying to make a template which i can use when i need to update a list and use the same format without having to retype the same headings and categories over again. thanks

  1. Create a file named Master or whatever you want to call it. Word: Type the text and format (including Headers and Footers) the pages as you will be using in future. Where there is a word that will change in different future letters, type xxx , later use Find and Replace to insert the word or text. Excel: Do as in Word, except include formulas in cells that will always be used, headings, foot notes, etc. Any time you want to type a new letter based on the Master, open it and Save it as its specific name. Then enter the changes that apply to it and save it again.
