  1. Don't plan. You will have more fun and adventure that way! Good luck!!!
  2. Yahoo Travel.
  3. Since you are posting your question on the Thai forum I will give you info on that country. Thailand is one of the easiest countries to be a first time tourist. Tourism is big business and it is easy to get tours and transportation. I don't know of any template, most tourists probably decide after reading about Thailand, or Asia in general, where they want to go and then book transportation and hotels for those places. You have to decide when you want to leave your country, check the prices for airfare several days before and after your preferred departure date for any big change in price. Start in Bangkok and end there! In Bangkok if you are very young you might want to look into cheap hotels in the Khao San Road area. If you are slightly older or a little more mature, you might want to get a hotel near the Skytrain route, perhaps Siam or Sukhumvit Road area. While in Bangkok you can arrange for bus rides, train rides or flights to other cities. Popular destinations for women seem to be Chiang Mai and Phuket. Pattaya, Jomtien and Hua Hin are beach areas a little closer to Bangkok. Check out some of the travel forums at the bottom of this post for more specific information. It is easy to get transportation to other nearby countries. Make sure you check out any visa requirements ahead of time. Some countries you can fly in and get a stamp in your passport pretty fast and some other countries require photos and visas ahead of time. Spend your last night in Bangkok so you will be only a taxi ride from the airport and not have to worry about a last minute connecting flight being late. You can Google up "what to see and do in Bangkok" or "what to see and do in Thailand, etc." and get lots of detailed information. In Thailand if you need a tour you can just check out the nearest travel agency to your hotel, choose a tour from their selection list and the tour company will pick you up the following morning and return you to your hotel. Sometimes you can book a tour in the morning and go on an evening dinner cruise that same night. Good luck.
  4. I'm off to Thailand on saturday for a 5month backpacking trip of southeast Asia & i haven't planned a thing! =/ although i think that's the best way as what's the chances of sticking to my plans? Slim i think! I've got my lonely planet guide & a map so i'll just figure it out as i go, more fun!!! =)
