where do i download the website template to?

since i am new to website building i found a free website template to use. but where do i download it to so i can use it? dose it need to be named like whatever.html or the name doesn't matter? i am just lost. i don't know like how to get it to come up in my cpanels files and how to start working on it editing and etc. please explain in simple language. thank you so much in advance.

1. It has to be the default file name, if you want it to come up when people just go to the name of your site without specifying a file. That name is usually index.html.
