How can I add an creative layout / background to my my blogger page?

I just created a new blogger page, and I'd like to add a creative layout like the ones you find on MySpace Or Yours and on Xanga pages, but I don't know how you can on Blogger. I came across a few sites for free templates and downloaded them, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do to actually upload them onto the blog. The templates come in zipped files and when you unzip them there are multiple options. I don't know what part contains the code to put on the blog. I'd love to use one of my paintings as a background setting, but I'm not sure how to do that either. Okay, so basically I'm 17 and am as tech savvy as a six year old, and really need someone to give me a step-by-step guide on where I can find awesome, free templates / backgrounds and how to actually use them. Explain it to me like you would to a kid, please. Seriously, anything else will fly over my head. Thank you!

1. A good sour e for templates is freecsstemplates.com BUT each is tailored to a particular script like joomla or wordpress. So if you want to adapt one then your going to have to get a copy of your present one and do the editing. I dont know what blogger is but presume its a blogging script. freecsstemplates is a good way to start or search FREE BLOGGER CSS TEMPLATES.
