Need help in making invoice for freelance research...?

I'm doing freelance research for a documentary. The writer/director is paying me a rate for every hour worked. What should I put on the invoice? What type of activities can I charge for? If anyone can share an invoice template, it will be much appreciated. Thanks.

1. well ask the client how much detail they want on the invoice. The basic invoice: Your name and address Their name address the period you are billing for. When it is due, unless you have other agreement "Due Immediately" is what you should probably say. Then either: a) total hours, hourly rate total due b) Hours by category, say "research", "travel", "Phone" Total due and any payment instructions "Make check payable to" or wire info.
2. Actually, there are invoice templates that come with WORD. You can edit one of those, add your logo and company name, address, and other particulars. You can bill for the number of hours worked at the agreed upon rate. You can also include your telephone costs, travel, (commute costs) if agreed to before hand, and any other incidental costs (supplies etc) again agreed to with the client beforehand. Good Luck
