DH Templates

Could someone please give me some advice on Joomla!?

I am attempting to start my own web design business and have managed to pick up 2 clients already who are very patient and willing to let me work on their site for a very low price. In exchange, once I'm done I will be able to use their sites as my example work. I have chosen Joomla! as the content management system to work with. I am running into a few problems. 1. I have very basic traning in html, xhtml, & css. No experience with php mysql or xml. I also know a very small amount of javascript. I am trying to build my own templates but just keep getting frustrated, any advice? 2. I feel like I'm trying to learn multiple things at once and am just running around in circles learning nothing. Could someone provide me with some direction on what part of the website to build first. EX: Template then content.. 3. One of my clients is interested in having words move on his page, is there a way to do this without knowing flash? Thanks!

  1. Scripting isn't that hard, and most resources for server side programming have already been established by well trusted and true members of the web community. Some script servers come with predefined templates for you, for example: python, or lua. Or if you want to get a headstart with some really RAD tools check out the YUI package at the Yahoo Developers Network. There's some pretty interesting stuff there, including resources on building Yahoo Apps which work very similiarly to any RSS feed with dynamic content.
