how to make a blog template?

hi there, me and some Friends of mine, not long ago created our own blog. we used some already made blogger templates but they were really boring and wanted to make our own one. well the question is are there any tutorials that show how to make one and still allow it to be compatible with blogger? or is their any type of special css/html/xhtml Software that we need to use to really customize it and if we do need to download a software, can you recommend some free ones that aren't trials? forgot to mention would it be good to just use photoshop for this kind of thing?

1. All you need - since a template is just text - is Notepad. Oh, and knowledge of HTML, CSS and probably Javascript. That last one, the knowledge, is the most important part.
2. hmmm... Actually, making template is a lot difficult than it seems, because there are lot of things that have to work absolutely correctly. And the template that you end up with might already be created by someone, and might be available for free. I would suggest you search around for some free templates first, and you will definitely find something that you might like.
