I'm a graphic design student and I just would like to ask if which program is better in building a website??
We have already used Photoshop and Illustrator(Adobe products) and we have already designed a web template using Photoshop but our professor says that we can also use Illustrator for web designing. I also have Dreamweaver and Flash. So what program do I use to create a website/weblayout?

- Macromedia Dreamweaver is essentially all you really need to build amazing sites; it's capable of handling numerous languages ranging from HTML / PHP / CSS / Java and more. If you'd like to try something for starters, I'd go with Microsoft FrontPage; which is less powerful than Dreamweaver but both have a Designer mode and a Coder mode; with Designer mode one either, you'll be able to create a site in minutes and switch to Coder mode to see what the code looks like. Dreamweaver is really all you need to begin; I wish you the best.
- Photoshop isn't the best. I don't know about Illustrator. Flash is used for portions of web sites. Dreamweaver is probably the best of the web development tools you mentioned, unless you specifically are trying to do flash (which offers you animation and other affects).
- Photoshop, Dreamweaver & Flash. You already use everything I use.
- You use photoshop and/or Illustrator to make the layout of what the page will LOOK like, and from that you then go to dreamweaver to make your photoshop template into a webpage. What I do in photoshop is create the layout with the exact dimensions of what your webpage will be, then I use guides to section off areas in photoshop to help me determine the widths and heights of areas whether I am using html, or css (which is mainly what I use). Then you use the crop tool in photoshop to save images that you can't create with css and html, and save those to an images folder for your website. Don't use photoshop to slice up the entire page, that is not web design. Only use it to optimize images you will use in your website, and use it to refer to while coding your page in dreamweaver. Now if you are using flash then you have to know how to use that program, whether you use the images you create with photoshop or illustrator and animate them on the timeline or with actionscript. But I'm not sure if you know how to do that yet.
- HI, I am also a web applications and design student. Use Dreamweaver to create your website, but before you do take a course in it or buy Dreamweaver 8 Revealed or Dreamweaver CS3 Revealed. Working thru this book will help you tremendously understand the Dreamweaver workspace and will enlighten you to things you would not know without learning the workspace first. I know nothing of illustrator, but I am certain your professor knows what they are talking about. good luck, mavin
- Photoshop would probably be better for website layouts. Illustrator is more for vector images where you can blow them up to the size of a billboard. Dreamweaver would definitely be used for building your website and flash would be used to add a little flare to it. Or it can be used to make an entire site, but that's more work and programming.
