Why doesn't the "this.movie_mc.gotoAndPlay" targeting work in Flash when the same "movie_mc.gotoAndPlay" does?

I'm building a Flash website at the moment. I'll have one main template swf, that will be calling in 6 external content swfs. Each swf will have movieClips within movieClips etc. etc. And some of the swfs will be calling in dynamic text content from xml files too. However, I am having problems, sometimes the xml content doesn't show when it's called in to a swf within a swf. Does it have something to do with my form of targeting? I need to use relative targeting. Anyone know of good flash web templates online?

1. Can u specify where exactly are you calling this function from? I mean the hierarchy of objects and swf. I also earlier had this type of problem. If you could be more specific about your problem, I think I can help you.
