How do I edit a CSS template?

I have Dreamweaver CS3. I've found a template I'd like to customize - it's a CSS template and I'm unfamiliar with how to edit these types of templates (I CAN edit CSS style sheets) - as when I open the HTML file in Dreamweaver, WYS is NOT WYG when you preview the document. Any tips? Should I be using another type of software?
