Can a GNU licensed website template be used to create a website for paying clients?
Can a web design business simply use existing free templates to create websites for paying clients? So if the template was edited with the clients details and content, it would be ok to use the template to create a paid for website if I state that it is a GPL licensed website? I'd also attribute the design to the designer of course.

- Yes they can, but if you modify the template you would be required to release that back into the community for free.
- Not if you're just making them pay for the template. If you do any work on it, you can, but you still have to make it clear that you've used a GPL-licensed template both to the client and on the site itself. The client might not be very happy to find that you did, ne?
- You should inform your client that you are going to use free web template and they cannot have any copyright on that.
