How do you write a letter stating an interest in becoming an exclusive agent to sell a certain product?

I'm actually interested in becoming an exclusive agent to sell a certain product in my home country. Is there a formal way to write such a letter to the main company for which I would like to gain the agency rights? Something like a template, or a defined structure for writing such a letter, i.e. what kind of information should be put in such a letter? I'm not from a business background (more technical), so any help from anyone who has had experience with this would be much appreciated.
