Why won't PowerPoint let me use the design templates?

I'm making a powerpoint presentation but when i try to put a design template in saying that PowerPoint can't read the file. I noticed that the name has a ".pot" instead of a ".ppt" at the end of the template names though. Anyone know how to fix this?

1. I think .pot is the older version of PowerPoint. It only works on like '98 and 2000. Are you using a newer version?
