- It depends on how involved you will actually be with the coding process. I think it would probably be better to design from scratch so you can do exactly what you want. It will take longer to figure out someone elses work then to do it on your own.
- Often, when you are first learning basic web design, it will be easier to use a web template so you can focus on the simple parts of HTML and work your way up. However, if you have a very specific design that you want to use and you do not have a tight deadline, it may be easier for you to start from scratch and learn as you go along. - If you don't know what you are doing when it comes to Web design, use the templates. Rarely will you get a better looking result than a template you like, so why spend money if you don't need to do so?
- It's always better to reuse your code. It's never better to use someone else's code. If you know what you're doing, writing your own is easier than analyzing someone else's. If you don't know what you're doing you can't analyze someone else's code, so using it is a bit dangerous, unless it's exactly what you need. (And if you're that lucky, why work? Just buy lottery tickets.)
- Amateurs use templates. These are usually set for one resolution only, and work well on one or two browsers. Templates are instantly recognisable as an unprofessional work. Many templates often rely on contents on OTHER servers (a very, very bad idea!) Professionals design personalised websites that 1. Fit on any resolution screen. 2. Run correctly on any W3C compliant browsers. It is your choice! Take a template you like, run it through IE, FF, Opera, (Netscape), Safari and, if you want fo have fun, Chrome. Be ready for some disappointment.
- I would check with your hosting provider. I use http://www.3ix.org/sys/aff.php?aff=2699 and they offer 2 free scripts for reselling with auto payment systems. I use templates all the time and then modify to fit my needs. There is no reason not to use them if they fit your needs. Saves lots of coding time. Check to see what your host provides. Thanks
