How do I merge an Excel document into an Avery Label document in Microsoft Word?

I want to merge my wedding invitation list in Excel into an existing label template in Word, but can't seem to get it right. Any ideas and tips would be appreciated.

  1. Try copying and pasting one column at a time, one sheet at a time. The Word labels tend to have narrow columns between the main columns for spacing - and these are just seen as regular columns when pasting a block from Excel. You might also want to try Mail Merge from Word. I'm not really familiar with it, but it seems to be applicable in this are: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/mailmerg.htm
  2. Open Word, select Tools, Mail Merge, then select Labels:. Select your label size or create a custom label. Then select your recipients from an existing file. Word will then prompt to browse for your XL file. ISelect your file (you may have to tell Word to look for Excel files) Its then a matter of inserting the XL field names in the order you require using spaces and linefeeds where required. Format the fields to bolden or italicise. Just follow the Mail Merge wizard and you wont go far wrong.
