Have you used a CV writing Service in the UK? How much did you spend and was it worth it?
I am considering using CVChecker for a tailored service that costs about £400. I just wonder whether the improvements justify the cost. By the way I am 60.

- Aha, you can cheat. A lot of employment agencies will do a CV for you for free - obviously they want to get you out in the workplace so they get commission. Get a copy of that, and run to the hills! :)
- 400 pounds is too high a price to pay for a resume writting service. You can do a bit of research and write yourself a good CV. Use that money to blast your resume to organizations and placement consultants using the resume blasting services that almost all job sites offer. By the way dont you think that 60 is a lil too late to be looking for jobs?
- As a '2IC', I have been responsible for reading CV's and weeding out the dross. I can seriously state that NO CV is worth £400 of your money. Even If you are going for a high profile job, you should be capable of writing a CV. As you have access to a PC, why not use one of the 'Word' PC wizards. CV's, as a first-point-of-contact can be quite important, but as long as you follow a few very rough guidelines (clear, good spelling and grammar, no more than 2 pages, etc) then the CV should be passed to the second stage (in depth reading and skills matching)
- If this is any help. For many years I followed the advice of careers advisors from school and university and my CV was rubbish. I hardly ever got interview, but always got the job when interviewed. I only found out later after doing a bit of research that I had been folowing bad advice. I decided to take my CV more seriously and researched how to put one together. In fact you don't but one together but a number based on the type of work you are aiming for. Each CV emphasising your key selling points for that job. It is not a list of your passes and fails but a sales document to get you to the interview. So I spend a lot of time checking out the internet and reading a number of books. I had the time and inclination to do this and the lack of money to pay someone else. After this I was always asked for interviews. So getting your CV done to a professional stardard is definitely worth it. So I would say check out the company and get them to supply references to happy clients, as they is a lot of bad advice they can give you as well as very good advice. If they are good then they will transform you CV and provide you with a great opportunity to getting an interview. Then it is down to you and your interview technique! Good Luck!
