  1. Hi! There are loads of websites where you can get templates for cvs. You just need to type in Curriculum Vitae and take your pick. However, one BIG tip I can give you (and I speak from experience here), ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS send your cvs out with a HAND WRITTEN letter. This will give you the leading edge on any other applicants, believe me I KNOW!!! I wish you the very best of luck with all your endeavours!

  3. Keep it brief. The first page is all that counts. Nobody cares that you sold popcorn at the movies when you were 14. Nobody cares how many staples you were required to use at XYZ Corp. "Had sole responsibilty for delivery of posted items to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jones; his assistants;..." No. "Mail Clerk, 2002-2003." Yes.
  4. Yes a hand written letter is a must. I used to work for a very successful recruitment agency & their CV's followed basic rules. 1st page is summary of you, your experience & qulaifications. Page 2 and half of page 3 for detailed experience of each previous post or experience. and finally on the bottom of page 3 refernces. Make sure you dont go into a page 4! Hobbies and interests whilst you enjoy them, just generate a good laugh mainly so leave em out. If there are gaps in between employment, cover them well or have good reasons exuses. Dont put anyone or thing down... nothing negative. and make sure it is well spell checked (unlike this msg!) oh fancy paper or fonts dont get any credit, its what is written that counts and well presented paragraphs etc... consistancy.
  5. I've written a guide on laying out CVs at http://www.journalism.co.uk/features/story1953.shtml - try some of these ideas and then make sure you get lots of feedback on your layout and content from friends and family. You might also find it useful registering with some recruitment agencies - go and see them and ask for feedback on your CV.
