How do i design a template for powerpoint?

I have to design my own background or template thing for powerpoint, we have a presentation to do, but i have no idea how to. i am doing a biography project on Dr Seuss, so i would like to put some fun whimsical things in the background or maybe a cat in the hat hat. help? i don't know how to use powerpoint!

1. Well ... To change the background do the following: 1. Open the presentation 2. Click right mouse button on slide 3. Choose "Background" - Click on down arrow in the new popup window 4. Select "Fill Effects" in that menu 5. Choose "Picture" tab and click "Select Picture" And insert picture:) Or just go to http://www.poweredtemplates.com/free-ppt-powerpoint-templates.html to choose more appropriate template and make any nesessary changes in your own ....
