Which is better...?

Which do you think is best: A personally designed website or one that uses a template? I know html, css, and that but lack the graphics programs. I can look at a website and usually tell if it was a template or not, but which do you prefer?

1. It depends on it's application. If it is a personal website, then a personally designed one is okay, however, if you are building a business website where you are selling things, there are a lot of nice templates available with shopping cart and all. It all boils down to personal preference.
2. Using templates will speed up the process of making web pages. If you have the knowledge, and the time, then do it on your own. Templates are really only for that purpose, when there is a time contraint. Necessary graphics software can be downloaded for free. Most are now easy to use.
