How can I start a website from scratch?
I am not interested in finding a web host or anything of that sort at all. I know HTML, CSS, Javascript, the works really well. I have Dreamweaver, photoshop, and flash cs3. It's just that I can make good websites, but I mostly use them from other people's website templates and just change a lot of stuff to make it my own. Do I draw it out on a sketchpad first? How should/can I start from scratch?

- f$ck both 1st and 2nd poster. to make a website you have to have a goal, what will the website be about? and things like that.... there are different ways of designing a webpage, i do it by starting out on a scratch of paper and format how the "tables" will go "nav", header" footer" "body" etc. then i go to photoshop and design out the page and then apply web 2.0 graphics sparingly, and finally export to web and mobile devices and import to dreamweaver and apply the data and fix all the problems. then i upload. webdesigning is almost the same as drawing except that its limited by html. you design however you want, make it really cool, or different. just make sure its navigatable.
- You can draw it on paper to get an idea. I recommend you sketch, and organize what stuff your going to have and make. That's how it starts. After you get all prepared, you start making the desgin come to life on a special progam, then you start the coding, and put it up!
- "I am not interested in finding a web host or anything of that sort at all." - Hence, your links are pointless. If your interested in building a website from scratch, try taking notes of features you want, colors you will use, and things like that. After you have the basics, try building from there by starting a "foundation" for your site. And I don't mean a fund or charity. I mean the basics of it. Hope this helps=)

- What I usally do, is.... 1.) Come up with a good idea. 2.) Research that Idea to find the type of market it applies to 3.) (USE A SKETCH PAID TO DRAW HOW I WANT IT LOOK) 4.) Think of the file structure how I want it to come about. 5.) Devlope the design adding dummy content, 6.) Start adding code to it, such as PHP CF ASP etc... to make it dynamic 7.) Tweek what you think needs to be tweeked. 8.) Release Beta, get user inputs on what they think 9.) use the best user inputs to make it better, 10.) Release Beta 2 11.) debug until its done 12.) Enjoy your new site
- Well, if we're talking about "from scratch" as in no computer at all, then what I'm about to suggest is pretty pointless. At some point (maybe even at ALL points) you're going to need SOME sort of website, otherwise how will you test your work? You don't have to be online to do it though, just download Apache, and maybe PHP and/or MySQL if you need to store and retrieve data... http://httpd.apache.org http://php.net http://mysql.com For generating and brainstorming IDEAS and laying out a website, I use a technique called MindMapping, which you can do on paper, or with a free software tool... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_Mapping http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page When thinking through a concrete process for the project, I like to borrow something from the software development arena called Extreme Programming, which works rather well for web development also, especially when dealing with clients/customers... http://www.extremeprogramming.org/
