How do I get into graphic designing for web pages?

Okay, first things first, I know how to surf the web and all, but other than that, when it comes to computers, I'll place my hand on the Bible, raise my right hand, and will take an oath to swear that I am an absolute dumbass that knows absolutely nothing further about them. I want to learn how to use programs like Adobe Flash and varioius other graphic design programs to create elaborate web pages, especially various different Myspace profiles and templates. Those myspace comments you always see with elaborate artificial pictures that look realistic? I want to learn how to do that. What's seriously embarrassing is when I see 14 year olds making these elaborate profiles and webpages with different sparking icons and all, and I'm 21!!! What programs are used, and how can I learn to do that too? (Oh, and remember, you're talking to an idiot here, so please be simple and specific) Thank you!

  1. The answer is these 14 year olds are using mom and dad's Software. Here is one of the best. http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/?ogn=EN_US-gntray_prod_creative_suite_family_home Most of the real good ones have a ton of help. Many are useing multiple softwares. As you scroll down through this link you will see the complete Suite of programs.
  2. Most people use the Creative Suite (http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/) But you need extensive HTML and CSS knowledge to do this. I am one of those 14 year olds, and I do web sites in my spare time and make more money than most of my peers do with part time jobs. I personally use Photoshop and Zend Studio on my own computer, but you can use GIMP (http://gimp.org) if you can't afford Photoshop, that's what I did. For coding, notepad++ works wonders. (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) It's free, fast, and doesn't baby you. Learning is simple. Google HTML and CSS tutorials, or even GIMP tutorials. You will come up with a plethora of things. Check out talkphp.com for a community that can help you when you need it. Learning this stuff takes forever, and it is only useful for creating things like Myspace profiles. For anything with any value you need to learn a web scripting/programming language like PHP or Python. That takes exponentially longer, even if you learn HTML and CSS the right way, sifting through the documentation and everything.
