I want to launch a website and I downloaded a bunch of free templates, I don't know how to preview/edit the templates though...just a bunch of php files, index.html and main.php's. I need a name for a website template? I am in the middle of creating a website template using php and I am trying to make it so it is simple to use for beginners and people new to website design (I will distribute it on my free host website). PHP includes across a directory structure? I"m struggling to build a site with php includes, that has a directory structure. I've used php includes on single pages, and they work, but as soon as I use directories everything gets messed up. Firstly, here is an example of my directory structure: root root/dir1 root/dir2 root/includes root/index.php root/dir1/index.php root/dir2/index.php root/includes/nav.php Basically, i'm having problems including 'nav.php' in the index files inside dir1 and dir2. If I have a link in nav.php that looks like: <a href="index.php">Home.</a> and then include that file in dir1/index.php using: <?php include "../includes/nav.php"; ?> the link takes me to the index file in dir1, not the homepage. THe problem here, is if I link to the homepage with a ../ to go back a directory, the link will not work on pages in the same directory as the homepage. What i'd like to know, is there a way to tell php to start from the root directory and call all files from the root directory, so that my links work no matter what my directory structure? Anybody know of a free website template that has a directory structure with multiple directories that I can look at? Thanks for any and all help!

Free website hosting that let you use more than CSS, HTML, and Java? This is all I need. A free website host that allows you to use more than CSS, HTML, and Java. Certainly no "pre-set templates". Bandwidth and the like are not of a concern. Even if I were to put up .pdf downloads of charts, it's not like those are large files. I only want it so I can code and plan out the site, and see how the pages look before I go to, probably, asmallorange and purchase a domain there. I tried webs.com, but they don't let you use PHP unless you pay some fee or something stupid like that.. A free drawing board, if you will. Actually..Unless you have better suggestions than the orange? Best way to build a simple retail website using a database (no transactions, just browsing) ? Hi, I'm a programmer but I've never worked on the web. I'm mostly a cubicle drone in in large businesses. I have some basic knowledge of PHP and HTML, but learning any new language is not really a problem. Problem I have is where to start so I don't waste time/ressources. I want to build a simple website for a sports retail store. They only sell bikes, skis and a few accessories so it's not very complex. I don't want to include the possibility to buy online. Just consulting items, maybe with pictures. Plus, they use an cash registrer so I'd like to put their items on an Access database and build and replace their cash registrer with a small VB or VBA application. That's the easy part. But I'd like to use the same database for the website. Do I start from scratch? If so, with what language? Or are there nice free templates out there that do exactly that, interact with a database? If you can tell me step by step how a small project like that ususally works out, it'd be appreciated.

Help with website form/programming/php? Not even sure how to phrase the title of this question! I run a blog site with photoshop brushes for download and sale. The brush sets are free for personal use, but to use them commercially you can buy a license. At the moment I have to manually make out a commercial license for people every time,and then i send them a paypal invoice. takes up a lot of time.. What i'd like is some system whereby they pay (still with a paypal buy now button i guess) then they get redirected to a form where they enter their details and then a personalised license is produced from a template file or page. They then save that page as their license. I guess the page would have to be somehow secure so that they coudlnt just share that link with others. HoW to create User Authentication and Management (login script)? this is what i want to do: i have a website and i need to make it so that visitors can create accounts. I need to be able to manage these accounts (for example they will complete a deal and i have to be able to update their profile when its verified). Ive looked around and everybody tells me that i will need a database. Im guessing this has something to do with MySQL and PHP scripts. Do i need MySQL and PHP or can i jsut use PHP. Free forum software with login integration? I'm looking for a free forum system that I can add to one of my websites. Preferably written in PHP and using MySQL. So far, so good. Wiki: Best way to build a customized, independent, diverse wiki? I need to build a wiki for a club. I know the ins and outs of dreamweaver, so I can do front-end stuff. Basically, I want some back-end wiki software (prefferably free) that will manage the databases and all that stuff that wikis do, but not be constricting. By constricting, I mean I don't want it to require me to use it's templates for the website (i want to do front-end stuff myself). I want it to be expandable (the website needs to be able to grow), and possibly have some sort of user registration/log-in system. Im going to design a website myself, upload it onto a server (that i'll pay fees for), and i just need a wiki system to operate in the back without interfering with the front-end stuff. I'm a fast learner so I can figure it out, but i'm wondering if I should know PHP/MySQL first, or do wikis cover that for you? Basically, whats the best (free) software that can do what I need?

So what I offered him (verbatim) is: ********* $365 Includes: 5-7 page site designed and implemented Hosting if needed Up to 100 Email Addresses (if hosting with me) Flash Design (2 max) Logo Design and / or Manipulation Contact form on site (PHP) Free Updates for the existing content of the site (once site is designed and implemented) 1 Year - 24/7 Support (just email or call me anytime for any reason) Submission of your URL to over 200 Search Engines quarterly After one year, if you like to continue my services I just invoice you an additional $365 on the 1 year anniversary date. ********** Now... The anniversary date has passed. I sent 3 invoices to the email address of the guy that started this agreement. I sent a 30 day notice, a 7 day notice and a 1 day notice. There was no reply to any of them. I waited 10 days after the account was due to be renewed because that is what I say I will do in my Terms Of Service. And on this 10th day I filed a DMCA (copyright infringement) with the company that is hosting his site. I did this because, again, I do not do templates. Is this bad business on my part? OK... I design websites. I do not sell templates. As a matter of fact it is all over my website that I do not do templates, ever. But a little over a year ago a new client came along and said he was looking for a template. He said he wanted a website built that looked cool and that he would update it. I never told him I would give him a template, as a matter of fact I told him that he seemed like a busy guy and that I would be there to do the updating of his site for him. So what I offered him (verbatim) is: ********* $365 Includes: 5-7 page site designed and implemented Hosting if needed Up to 100 Email Addresses (if hosting with me) Flash Design (2 max) Logo Design and / or Manipulation Contact form on site (PHP) Free Updates for the existing content of the site (once site is designed and implemented) 1 Year - 24/7 Support (just email or call me anytime for any reason) Submission of your URL to over 200 Search Engines quarterly After one year, if you like to continue my services I just invoice you an additional $365 on the 1 year anniversary date. ********** Now... The anniversary date has passed. I sent 3 invoices to the email address of the guy that started this agreement. I sent a 30 day notice, a 7 day notice and a 1 day notice. There was no reply to any of them. I waited 10 days after the account was due to be renewed because that is what I say I will do in my Terms Of Service. And on this 10th day I filed a DMCA (copyright infringement) with the company that is hosting his site. I did this because, again, I do not do templates. Free scripts for online shopping carts? Hello. I'd like to build a fairly basic web site in HTML. It will mostly be informative, and cover the history, about us, services etc. This I can manage no problem. However, on just one page, i'd like to list approx 40-50 products for sale online. I'm not keen on the idea of building my website using on online template resource with shopping cart facilities and ASP, or PHP built in scripts, and I'm not really savvy with coding this kind of user interaction, shopping carts etc, so does anybody know if I can get hold of some specific type scripts which I can build into my website, or advise me otherwise? This web hosting stuff has me all confused! Help? I am pretty much new to this whole web hosting thing. I have decent knowledge of HTML and used CSS for my menu in my website. I have created my website (A Fantasy Football website) out of both. I used the program Notepad++ to do all my coding. Then saved my pages onto my desktop for now. I also used Paint Shop Pro to make my Website Template. That's just the basic stuff about my site. Now I thought choosing a web host would not be a big problem but I am more confused then ever. Suggest a wordpress template? Free or cheap wordpress template - I need one. I am planning to create a website and put my stuff, write a few articles etc. I am not particularly looking for blogging. I might write some memoirs, music related articles, history etc. I tried joomla etc. But I felt they are difficult and wordpress is quite easy to configure and maintain. I need an online shopping cart for my website that uses PHP/Mysql and works with an existing site.? I have seen some people ask about shopping carts here before, but those people are asking generic questions like "what is the best shopping cart". The answers they get are about carts that are basically website templates that deviate slightly but are canned products. I want something similar to what Paypal shopping cart does. It generates buttons that I could put on any existing page that will add to the shopping cart when pressed. The thing I DON"T like about the paypal shopping cart is that it takes you to the paypal site every time you do anything. I need a cart that collects the information, products, address and such and when a customer checks out it then takes them to Paypal to complete the order. I am currently using Shopsite and actually like the way it works to a point. I currently have to use 2 databases, one for my product and one for Shopsite so every time I want to change a product I have to edit both. Shopsite also uses PERL, something I know nothing about. What I do know is PHP/Mysql so I want a cart that uses them. I figure I will be better able to modify it to track inventory etc. So anybody know any good carts (free or a one time fee is OK, but NO MONTHLY FEES!) that meet all this?
